George Clooney

George Clooney got his break through the TV series ER and is now also a director, a producer and a screenwriter.

George Clooney was born in May 6, 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky. Of Irish American decent,

George Clooney was born to Nina Bruce, a former beauty queen, and Nick, a journalist and game show host, among others. George Clooney has one older sister named Adelia.

Being the son of a former beauty queen and a game show host, he was exposed to show business early in his life. The first major role that Clooney had was in E/R a comedy-drama TV series that was set in a hospital. This was way back in 1984. It is interesting to note that his first major role has commonalities with the TV show that gave him his big break – ER. The two shows should not be mistaken for each other as they are totally different productions.

While Clooney was reveling in his success in ER, he was not being idle. He had several movie projects going on at the same time. Some of the most notable of these are From Dusk Till Dawn, One Fine Day, and The Peacemaker.

Life did not stop for Clooney after he left ER. In fact, he has since then starred in major Hollywood movies that have scored him a place in the ranks of the best actors in Hollywood. Some of his best known movies include Three Kings, Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, and Ocean’s Thirteen.

With all these successes, it was not such a surprise that Clooney was voted as the “sexiest man alive” by People Magazine – twice. He has also won Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards.

Probably inheriting his political acumen from his father, who is now an aspiring politician in Kentucky, Clooney has been involved in some political causes. He describes himself as liberal in this respect and has been outspoken in his political views. With respect to the current presidential race, Clooney has professed his support for Democrat Barack Obama.

Clooney is also one of the most vocal figures in the initiative Save Darfur. He has taken advantage of the resources available to him as a movie star and tried to increase awareness int his regard. His efforts were in fact lauded by the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates when they presented him with the Summit Peace Award in 2007, together with Don Cheadle.
